About Boxabl
Boxabl is a company located in Las Vegas, Nevada that manufactures modular homes. The first home they are manufacturing is known as the Casita.
The Casita is a small home with 19.5 x 19.5 feet or 375 square feet of living space. It is more like a small studio apartment or tiny house.
What Your Purchase Of A Boxabl Includes:
When you purchase your Boxabl, it is essential to understand what is included in the Boxabl. You need to keep in mind that all these things are added in just 375 square feet of living, so everything from the kitchen to the bathroom will be compact.
Here is what is included in the Boxabl when you purchase a unit:
- Casita Full-Size Kitchen – The Boxabl comes with a full-size kitchen that includes a fridge, sink with window, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and cabinets.
- Bathroom – There is one bathroom per unit that includes a deep shower/tub, vessel sink, large counter, backlit, mirror, and sliding barn glass door. The door means that you do not waste any space for the door to open inward or out.
- Living Space – The living space comes with 9.6’ ceilings, 8 feet doors and windows, wide plank composite flooring, a washer, and drier, a heating and air conditioning unit.
When you see the layout of one Casita, you can fit in a bed, sofa and small cabinet for clothes, and a small kitchen table. There would not be much more room than that for anything else to be placed in the room.
It is an open space unit, so it would be more of a studio apartment than anything else, more or less like living in a hotel room that has a kitchen, bathroom, and living area.
What Makes The Boxabl Unique
Several things make Boxabl unique, and one reason why we like Boxabl so much. Of course, one of the most appealing aspects of Boxabl is the price range of under 50,000 USD per unit.
This price is only for the modular unit and does not come with the onsite transportation, land, onsite setup, utilities hook up, permits or zoning, or landscaping. All those costs need to be included when considering the final cost of owning a Boxabl unit.
Besides the handsome price, here are some points that make the Boxabl unique:
- Unfolds In An Hour – The Boxabl is, as the name implies, the house will be brought to the site and will unfold in about an hour. This means the setup time for a Boxabl could be extremely fast and efficient.
- Variety of Foundations – Before you receive your Boxabl, you must have a foundation for the house to go on. The Boxabl can be put on a variety of foundations, including concrete, a garage, or a host of other foundations.
To find out more about what foundations will accept a Boxabl, you can check out their website by clicking here. - Utility Included But Not The Utilities Hook up — The Boxabl includes the utilities but not the utility hookups as the water, electricity, etc. You need to already have those on the land you will put the Boxabl unit on. Plumbing, electricity, and HVAC all come pre-installed in your Boxabl, but you must have the utilities set up onsite to connect to these connections.
- Strong Construction – Boxabl claims to be stronger than a regular build onsite home. The Boxabls are made from steel, concrete, and EPS foam.
- Made To Last – The materials used to manufacture the Boxabls are made to last. The walls and floor are structurally laminated panels that are much stronger than an average building.
- Hurricane Rated – The Boxabl are rated to be able to withstand hurricane-rated wind speeds.
- Water Resistant – As the materials used to build the Boxabl units are steel, EPS foam, and concrete, the Boxabls are less likely to have mold due to any water damage.
- Fire Resistant Properties – The Boxabl were built with some fire-resistant properties in mind. This does not mean they are 100% fireproof, but if in a fire may come, less damage would be sustained than a home built out of wood and sheetrock. Both the exterior and interior structure is clad using non-combustible materials.
- Energy Efficient – Boxabl’s are designed to be energy efficient. They have a high R-value in insulations.
- Can Handle Snow – Boxabl’s are also able to handle snow and are snow load rated.
- Exceed Most Building Codes – Boxabl’s conform to or exceed most building codes. As Boxabl is a modular unit, it will come with state modular approval.
- Flat Roof – The Boxabl comes with a flat roof, but if you need a pitched roof, they can put one on.

We love all the energy and safety features that Boxabl has used to make this a unique housing unit. It is a no-frills kind of living, but then for 50,000 USD to have a team that comes with all the things it comes with is excellent. The Boxable does fit into the affordable housing category.
Why We Love The Boxabl
One of the reasons we love Boxabl is the price. It is a great house for someone who cannot afford a home in today’s housing market or does not want to be saddled with huge housing debt.
We also love how the house uses such great features as being more energy efficient and utilizing every square foot of space. It is essentially a kitchen and bathroom with 200 square feet of living space.
Not a lot of space for a large family, and a couple may even find they keep running into each other, but it could be great for a home office or for a single person who does not need a lot of living or entertaining space.
I could also see the Boxabl on a land or area where you can live partly outside for at least part of the year. Expanding your living outdoors would help to add to the living space.
Also, the Boxabl can be stacked on top of a garage, or you could get creative and put a garage beside it. You can even make your Boxabl off the grid if you want to.
We love the price and quality of the Boxabl house and all the features they put into it. We find them a great solution to help give choices for more affordable housing.
